This is the thing-
you’ve got no band,
no back-up singers,
can’t rehearse.
Just take out your stuff
and make something,
hope somebody,
somewhere
gets it.

Your best bet
is to shoot for pretty.
Don’t show your friends
if it gets too dark or weird.
Laugh at yourself.
Never act like
it could be a sliver
of your soul.
Just sing out loud
and use your hands
like some instrument
you picked up for a song,
like you don’t care
who is listening.
