midsummer

Oh, I hate to see the end of June. It is my favorite month. If I could live where it was June everyday... ahhh... I love June mornings, June afternoons and most of all... June nights. The sky is beautiful, the air warm...

a little fairy house

Yesterday seemed like a good day to make a fairy house. I really need to make the larger soldered collages for The French Mix. I plan to work on them today.
Also have to help Ian pack for San Antonio. He and Mark leave tomorrow for a week.
Still no rain... or hint of a cloud. And the thought of people shooting off fireworks in these dry conditions is terrifying!EEEK!

Here's a link to The French Mix... a very beautiful and cool store owned by Laura Vogel - a delightful gal... 6 feet tall, sweet as my grandma's iced tea, funny and very creative!! I am delighted to have my work for sale there.

Kitty Hawk

The Atlantic gave me gifts
that spring; scallops, coquinas, augers
and angelwings. For thirty years
I have packed and unpacked them.
The grey conch and the shark’s teeth
have long since lost their sand
and shimmer, but in them I can see
the shadow of the girl I was.
Fingers in the foam, hair salty
and tangled, I stood at the shifting edge
and claimed every possibility
that glittered at my feet .

The April sea was fierce,
but I wanted it that way,
wanted to imagine
how it could take me
cold and swift, my blood
anchored to the undertow.
Now the wentletrap and lettered olive
are so far from the breakers,
but some nights an ebb tide
of moonlight touches them
and the thunder of waves
on a cloudy beach
comes back to me like a song.

in Frida's shadow

I found this wonderful photo of Frida aboard a ship at Veracruz. It delights me to think that I too have been aboard a ship at this very port.

just smile...

Look at this jolly fellow. What's his secret? This is the kind of thing I wonder about...

must make art...

june morning

Possibilties hover,
suspended in the blue.
The sky is an ocean
for dreams to cross.
Anything could happen
on a day like this.

this is real

Cane Garden Bay... more beautiful that any photograph can convey. I have walked this beach and I will again. I have to go back... my heart is there.
